The Hourglass of Life – Reflecting the state of your life
The video sculpture "The hourglass of life“, created in 2023, not only shows the remaining life expectancy, but the whole life - very „analogously" as a virtual hourglass.
But it does even more: the permanently trickling sand veils and reveals properties behind the glass.
In this way, the sculpture makes us aware that much of what we lose over the years is made up for by qualities that we gain. And what we gain is at least as valuable as what we lose.
In contrast to the Carpe Vitam Clock, which shows the "life expectancy at birth", here the life expectancy increases with each age reached.
This means that the Hourglass of Life accompanies your whole life and shows you until the age of 100 how much time you still have available according to statistics.
The virtual hourglass thus shows by far the longest running motion picture of all time. An entry in the "Guinness Book of Records" is pending.
The video sculpture Hourglass of Life is a solid oak and metal edition, equipped with a high performance computer and a professional 24/7-monitor, handcrafted and individualized by the artist.
It is 28 x 39 x 12 cm, weighs approx. 8.5 kg and consumes approx. 1.5 watts (220 volts). You can switch it off and on whenever you want - it always finds its way back to the correct position.
