The Lifetime Triptych – 12 people and the time they have left
This video triptych also called “The time they have left” is the very first of Jean-Remy’s lifetime installation.
It was created in 2021 and consists of three monitors and 30 so-called nixie tubes in a fossil wood frame.
The videos show changing portraits from 12 people of different ages and origins while their remaining life expectancy ticks away in seconds before their eyes.
Jean-Remy asked each of these people about their goals in life, and from this he made a chant that accompanies the images.
Two of these people are in their mid-80s, but still in excellent health and full of goals. But since their statistical life expectancy at birth has already expired, you don't see any more seconds.
The Lifetime Triptych is a unique piece, measures 240 x 140 x 10 cm and weighs approximately 75 kg.
It is part of the exhibition „Beyond Fame“ at the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf until the end of January 2024. After that it will return to the artist’s atelier.
